The solutions to the most common drawbacks you can have with epoxy resin

It may happen that during the use of epoxy resin some common problems are encountered, such as when the resin does not harden in the right time or has bubbles on the surface.

Don’t panic!

We have written some useful tips for you to solve these problems.

WHAT IS AN EPOXY RESIN?

Epoxy resin is a particular resin that catalyzes thanks to a particular hardener.

This product has:

  • Excellent adhesive and mechanical properties
  • It is completely non-toxic
  • Can be used to create numerous resin products

Before starting work, make sure that the tools are clean and that the environment is free of dust to avoid contamination of the resin by external agents.

DRAWBACK 1: THE RESIN HAS NOT HARDENED AFTER THE INDICATED TIME

Have the two components been mixed in the right proportion? NO

If the two components have not been mixed correctly, it means that component B, which acts as a catalyst, has not fully joined with the resin of component A.

SUGGESTIONS:

  1. Follow the instructions indicated on the technical data sheets scrupulously
  2. Before proceeding with a possible second casting, make sure that the first is perfectly hardened
  3. In the case of environments with low temperatures, remember that the hardening time of the resin increases. To speed up this process you can use heat sources such as radiators or stoves
  4. Always use the catalyst combined with the resin because it is essential to obtain the desired effect

DRAWBACK 2: THE RESIN CURES TOO QUICKLY

Have you checked that there is not too high a temperature in the environment where you are working?

SUGGESTIONS:

  1. In summer, use the resin early in the morning or in the evening
  2. Mix only the doses you need

INCOVENIENT 3: THE RESIN HAS BUBBLES ON THE SURFACE

SUGGESTIONS:

  1. Stir the product well and slowly
  2. Spray the lacquer thinner on the surface or use white alcohol
  3. Make sure your tools are always clean

WHAT IF THE BUBBLE IS ALREADY CATALYZED WITH RESIN?

Proceed with a light sanding and place a further pour of resin.

ATTENTION!

To eliminate bubbles that could come from the bottom and would therefore be impossible to remove:

  1. Always apply a primer
  2. Use the same epoxy resin, applying it with a brush, to form a first insulating layer
